Several folks have been looking for the programming instructions to add keyless remotes to their LC...This works for 98-03 as far as I know.

These instructions have been tested and worked when I added a new keyless remote for my LC 2000 (I have limited mechanical ability and it was relatively easy)

You must have a working master key ..If your adding a new remote key you should have the key cut and program the transponder for the key, the correct instructions are listed in several spots already...you must be able to start the car with the key...

TO PROGRAM THE LOCK/UNLOCK /PANIC BUTTONS:

1.) Turn Key off..remove key from switch and open drivers door.

2.) Insert key into ignition switch and remove

3.) Lock & unlock power door locks from drivers door switch 5 times @ 1 second intervals.

4.) close & open drivers door

5.) Lock & unlock power door locks from drivers door switch 5 times @ 1 second intervals

6.) Insert Key into ignition switch and turn from lock to on twice and remove key

7.) Door Locks will cycle automatically from lock to unlock twice to confirm program mode has been entered.

8.) Take the first remote, press & hold for 1.5 seconds the unlock and lock buttons simultaniously... and release...then press the lock button for one second and release...If successful the system will cycle the locks from lock to unlock...

Important-You need to repeat step 8 for each remote you want programmed..when all your remotes are programmed moved to step 9

9.) Insert ignition key and remove to exit programming mode..

It is really very easy if you follow the steps careful and takes less than 5 minutes.

My only advice is pay attention to the time intervals and don't rush...

Hope it helps....why pay the dealer $80 ?

how about you copy this on the other thread with programming instructions that's in the FAQ already IIRC? The folks would see yours too....
thanks

Question

Im a little confused- Your directions are overall clear, but Im not clear on which key you refer to at each step- I have one original key w/ remote buttons, and 1 new key, which has been prgrammed as a 2nd master- I want to set up the buttons on the new key.

Am I supposed to use my new key for all steps? In step 8 you refer to the first key- Is this the original key? Do I use the new key for all steps other than step 8? Any clarification would be helpful
Thanks

clarify

Maybe this will help..

When you add a remote you must program all the remotes you are going to authorize at the same time (even if they were previously programmed)...When I did it I programmed the old remote first, then repeated step 8 for each additional remote...

Hope that helps...

Big bert....

Thanks Big bert- Im going to give it a shot tonight after work-
Appreciate the info

Just got a 100, came with one cracked, Keyless Entry remote key, one key no transponder(guy didnt realize you had to buy a key withone), and a key with a transponder...

Question 1. Is there another remote, that can be programmed to get away from the factory key/remote setup

Question 2. Cheapest Place other than Ebay to get a blank key/remote

Question 3. Does any super glue help? Actually dental apoxy type glue which is much stronger..

I am not making the following up..

The local shop that specializes on LCs told me the key would be $250 and would need 3 hours... THREE HOURS shop time to program the key .. costing another $250 , for a total of $500..

They said that they had done one two weeks earlier.. and that would be the cost for me also.. :censor:

My only guess is that the person programing hadn't done one and was having a hard time reading and pushing and turning keys and buttons at the same time..

I did it myself last week for a little over $100.. eBay for the key and I programed it myself .

UNREAL! I was able to do it easily using Bert's method. I would reconsider delaing with the mentioned "Landcruiser specialists"!

Thanks Bert- The instructions worked great - I also programed my old key first

Ok Guys, Can someone answer my Questions, I hate to start another thread...

When the answers to my questions may be useful

I Dont have answers to your first 2 questions, but here is an answer to #3- This was posted on a previous thread- this key has been in service with the following repair for 3 months+ now- No problems yet! Good luck to you

cheap fix

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I posted this on a previous thread- my key had broken away from the shell and this worked- still working today! might sound cheesy but it works-

Mine broke the same way- (Actually, when I bought my 98 recently the seller handed me the 2 broken fobs in pieces!) No way I was going to cough up the bucks for a new one. Used a small amount of JB weld inside to stick it together (clamped together w/ a c clamp) Then after the epoxy dried, I plastic welded the seam closed around the perimeter of the key (using donor material from the second failed part's shell) After I was done, I filed it down and sanded it smooth. Looks just like the original, except there is no seam between the halves

Obviously, once the transmitter battery (which I changed out beofre doing this!) dies Im s.o.l.. But till then, Im in good shape- Been using the key for 2 months now - No problems!

Glad it worked!!

$500 to program? can you say rip off!!! It takes less than 5 minutes....

The key case has a design weakness and if you crack yours the best bet is to contact a locksmith and ask them to order you a new aftermarket key blank or search on the internet and you can find them usually about $50-60...

Be careful buying used remote keys as some folks are rebuilding them by glueing in a cut key which is prone to break, try to buy a new one...usually $80-100 on ebay

Someone is selling the key shells on e-bay for about $35...you just transfer the transmitter to the new key shell, have it cut and you don't have to program...

I just bought a 99 LC. It has two keys but not the keyless remote type. Can I buy an Ebay keyless remote key and program it using the instructions on this thread?

programming problem

OK. I have searched the forum and FAQ and successfully programmed a new master and valet key into my 2001 LX's security system to start the vehicle. (Thank you to those who suggested Locksmith Charley and the information on his website).

Now my problem is programming the keyless entry into the new master key. I have followed Big Berts instructions but have not had any luck. The LX responds with a lock/unlock cycle to indicate it is in program mode. When I hold the lock/unlock buttons for 2 seconds and then the lock button for 1 second I always get a response of 2 lock/unlock cycles indicating the programming has failed. I believe I am following the directions exactly as listed and have not had any success.

Has anyone had similar issues or a different set of instructions to accomplish the keyless entry programming?

Success! I finally was able to correctly program the buttons on my new Master key. I tried to attach the directions I found in another forum which worked for me but .pdf files are not allowed.

These differed from Bert's directions in step 6. From Bert's directions I was entering the system into "rewrite" mode by turning the ignition on/off twice instead of once and entering the "add" mode.

Following the directions as Bert supplied but changing step 6 to only one on/off cycle did the trick.

Once I made the adjustment, it worked on the first try. Life is great when little things like this work. :)

I recently purchased a 2001 LC with one remote key and bought a second remote key off of e-bay. Programmed the transponder easy enough but I could not get the system to recognize the existing or new remote.

I did all the steps to get into program mode but everytime I pressed the unlock/lock button for the 1.5 seconds and then pressed the lock button for a second, the door locks would cycle twice (existing and new key).

I finally got it to accept the keys by pressing the unlock/lock button and releasing immediately, and pressing the lock button and releasing immediately. The doors locks cycled once for each key, and both keys worked fine after exiting program mode. YMMV - but it worked for me.

This forum has been a great resource for this rookie - thanks much.

Followed these instructions from start to finish. The outcome matched instruction 8 but the new remote doesn't open the locks. Anyone out there run into this situation?

lcruzrluvr,

What model year is your LC? The instructions in this thread are for the 4c key (2002 and prev). If you have an 03+ you have the 4d key and the steps are different. If you need the 03+ programing steps let me know I can post.

If you have 03+ have you programmed the chip for the ignition? If so how? I programmed the locks but have not been able to program the ignition portion. I have lots of instructions on programming keys and other functions related to the keys, but have not posted in FAQ as I have not figured out the ignition chip programing yet (for 03+).

2000 UZJ100. Going to give it another shot today. New remote key will start the car so I know that programming works. Just getting the remote functions programmed is my difficulty right now.

I just finally successfully programmed a key for my '02 LX470. I had no real problems getting the locks to program but the ignition was a bear. Turns out the place sent me the wrong electronic guts, they replaced and now I'm good.

As far as the above instructions, the only small differences were that in step 6 I only turned the key from LOCK to ON once I believe. I think in my instructions it says that ONCE programs a new transmitter whilst retaining original codes and twice erases all previous codes. So I did the once option. And then the other small difference is in step 8 my instructions say to just press LOCK and UNLOCK together (doesn't say to hold) then hold any of the remote buttons for 1 second.

This worked fine for me. As for programming the transponder to work in the ignition, I used the instructions here http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/carhelpplus/2008-08-06_235940_one.pdf
